Best Insurance To Get For Your Antarctic Voyage

You’ve done it. You’ve finally booked that once-in-a-lifetime trip, and you’ve already started counting down the days until your departure. However, before you set off to the frozen wonderland of Antarctica, there’s one more important element to your booking that you need to take care of.

While no one likes to think of the worst case scenario, no one wants to be stranded in South Georgia without their luggage either – not that this has ever happened, but it pays to be prepared for everything. Fortunately, you can put your mind at ease by covering your upcoming Antarctic voyage with a good insurance plan.

Wait, you can get insurance for Antarctica?

Yes! In fact, when you sign up to one of our Antarctic expeditions, you will be required to be covered by travel insurance policy that includes emergency evacuation.

As one of the world’s most remote locations, we need to respect the often extreme conditions of the Antarctic region. While you’re in the best of hands with our experienced crew and expedition leaders, it is our responsibility to ensure that each of our passengers will be able to access assistance in the unlikely case that they will need it.

What sort of insurance do I need for Antarctica?

You’ll need to opt for a more comprehensive policy to cover your Antarctic voyage.

Benefits with these policies often include:

  • Emergency overseas medical, including evacuation and repatriation (a must for our voyages)
  • Amendments and cancellations
  • Travel and/or luggage delays or disruptions

While we’ll do our best to take care of you once you board the ship, many of you will be travelling long distances and taking multiple methods of transport to get to your embarkation point.

The last thing we want to happen is for your bags to go missing or for a flight to cancel en-route to the voyage – and that’s where insurance comes in!

As always though, it’s best not to assume – so read through the Insurance PDS of the company you’re thinking of using to ensure they have the above as a bare minimum.

What if I need to cancel my booking for my voyage?

In the case of you needing to cancel your booking, you’ll need to notify our sales team or your travel agent as soon as possible. We also recommend that you choose cancellation insurance at the time of booking to avoid any unnecessary complications.

How do I book insurance for my voyage?

Most insurance policies can be purchased from 12 months prior to the start date of the policy. We recommend that you purchase your insurance at the same time as you book your trip to ensure you are also covered against trip cancellation.
